"A Different Day is remarkably written. This book starts out with Mo going through a really tough loss, and she is grieving...Friendship is a beautiful thing, and sometimes, that is more than enough...Author, Ash Hunter, did a phenomenal job with this book."
This book is beautifully written and illustrated. It captures an experience from the perspective of a young dog (Lilo) whose friend (Mo) has lost a parent. The book uses rhyming brilliantly to make the themes less intense for young readers - whilst delivering a message that friendships can get children (and adults) through the hardest of times.
"What a beautiful story about friendship and compassion! Even though it seems silly to think a dog would know enough to try to cheer someone up like this story, it happens a the time - a dog knowing you're having a bad day, or you're sick, etc. And even though they might not be taking it to the extreme, the empathy is still there and all they want is for you to feel better. It's a cute story, and I think the messages in it are powerful."
I read this book with my daughter. She loved the idea of a dog being able to understand when you're sad. Our son has a life limiting condition and I believe this book can help everyone, in all types of situations. It's a beautiful story 😊
"This story deals with loss of a loved one, grief, and sadness. It's okay to be sad, and sometimes the best thing we can do for our friends who are sad is to let them know we are there for them. This is a great way to teach our kiddos that it's normal to feel bad or sad sometimes, and it's okay...I definitely recommend this be available to kids through schools and libraries. If your kids have gone through a loss, they need this book!"
This book is really lovely, gently telling the story of a young girl who has suffered a loss and her pet dog who is doing all she can to make her feel better. Like most of us who have had a loss like this, the story rings very true. And like many of us who have loving dogs as companions, the relationship between the main characters is perfect. A sweet story that will help many young readers understand how they might move through sorrow. Got to love our dogs!
