I'm Ash!
I was born in Wiltshire, England and am, proudly, according to my birth certificate, exactly 1 minute older than my twin brother. I grew up in what I considered to be a very ‘normal’ childhood. Whatever that is! It was just me, my brother, my Mum, and Dad. Always having a dog by our side; it was from a young age that I developed a love of pretty much all animals and knew that I would work with them one day.
Another passion of mine was reading; a hobby which became particularly important to me when my Dad was diagnosed with cancer back in 2009. When it felt like things were falling apart at home there was nothing better than a trip to Hogwarts to escape for a little while or a good teen romance to absorb myself in typical teenage drama and forget about the real problems. Rather than the girl whose Dad was dying; I could be a strong and brave heroine or a powerful witch, a beautiful princess or even just an average teenage girl. Both that and the animals I surrounded myself with, helped me to get through some difficult times and have continued to do so ever since
It’s been a hell of a few years since then and a lot of things have changed. I am now an “adult” with my own home and my own furry companions, a puppy Lilo, who you will all be introduced to in my books, and Stitch, a mosaic chinchilla, who I hope to feature in a future story.
My Dad fought hard for 11 years but lost his battle with cancer 4 years ago, and throughout all the things I’ve been through in my life, the grief I have experienced have been some of the most overwhelming feelings in my life. It was once again my relationship with animals (as well as my incredible family) that helped me to get through. The books that I create are my way of honouring that unconditional love and strength that animals show, whilst also giving back to some of the charities that have supported me and my family along the way.
I hope my stories can support you in your times of need, in the way that a good story helped me.
I love lazy Sundays in bed with my favourite humans, going to the beach and chewing pretty much anything that will fit in my mouth (and sometimes even a sofa sized challenge!). But mostly I love exploring and meeting as many different people and dogs that I can and having lots of adventures along the way.
I also love the occasional goji berry, a good chin scratch but especially being let out of my cage to have a good explore! Unlike Lilo, I can be a bit moody sometimes, but lucky for my humans, you can see exactly how I’m feeling by my facial expressions.
